Ryan has always been a pretty good eater, except for recently. I dont know if it's his age or what, but it's becoming exhausting. When we eat dinner, everyone has to sit at the table & we turn off the tv. I will put something on his plate that I know he will eat. Sometimes its the same as what me and Mike are eating and sometimes it's not. It really depends on what it is. Well, the last 3 or 4 nights he has been REFUSING to eat what is on his plate and then like an hour or two after dinner, he will bug me for something else to eat. Apple, crackers, whatever he feels like. Well, I've decided that this is NOT OKAY. He needs to eat what is on his plate for dinner and if he doesn't eat it, then he doesn't get any dinner. We ate dinner around 5:30 and know it's 8:15 and he hasn't eaten ANYTHING! He has been to the cupboard to try to pull something out, but I just put it back. I point to his dinner on the table and say "that's what your eating" and he puts his hands over his eyes and runs away (I'm not making him eat freakin liver or anything). I know I should stick to my guns, but I have a hard time putting him to bed w/out anything to eat.
Any suggestions? Give him what he wants or make him eat his dinner?

I think you should make him eat his dinner but maybe try some different stuff at dinner time like a variety of things apples, crackers, whatever you cook, cheese, ect. Then whatever he doesn't eat oh well if he's hungry later tough.
Trust me, if you let him get away with not eating his dinner he will take full advantage of it. Give him a choice between veggies or fruit that way he feels he has control over the situation but don't be a short order cook, he needs to learn to eat what is given to him. You should also look into one of those books by Jo Frost the super nanny. I know she will have amazing advice. Good luck!
well, here is an update.
That same night right before I was going to put him to bed. He went over to the cupboard to get something to eat & I closed it and told him that he needed to eat his dinner if he was hungry. So, he climbed up on the chair & I re-heated his dinner and he ate it!
He did the same thing to me last night, he didn't eat any of his dinner but he went to bed w/out anything.
I am going to try my best to stick to my guns, but it is difficult because I want to make sure he is eating! It's hard to put your child to bed w/out any dinner.
Thanks for the advice!!
